Microcosm Testing
BTC is also proficient at conducting aerobic microcosm tests for degradation of hydrocarbons with special emphasis on MTBE. Our BW-05 bioaugmentation culture can degrade MTBE in-situ or ex-situ. We also conduct testing for co-metabolic degradation of chlorinated VOCs and 1,4 Dioxane as well as aerobic degradation of chlorobenzenes. Our procedures include sealed bottle testing and can evaluate the idealized concentrations of the various additives. Our microcosms further evaluate toxicity (especially important for co-metabolic degradation), ideal concentrations of contaminants for bioremediation, use of supplements such as vitamin B12. We are also experienced in setting up and conducting aerobic degradation microcosms for hydrocarbon and manufactured gas plant wastes. Our microcosm testing procedures provide for over 90% mass basis accounting, demonstrating the high quality and reproducibility of our work. A well conducted microcosm test can eliminate costly pilot testing.
